Perceptual Enrichment Program

The Perceptual Enrichment Program© developed by Patricia Theison, is a short-term, development-based program that uses perceptual skills to help the child master early cognitive and developmental concepts necessary for problem solving and organizational skills. PEP involves table-top activities, which allow the child to solve increasingly complex perceptual problems. These concepts eventually help develop a solid perceptual understanding that supports thinking and learning activity.

The Perceptual Enrichment Program enhances development in the following areas:
-Concentration, focus, and attention
-Organization
-Handwriting and spatial planning
-Bilateral motor coordination
-Processing and integrated information
-Language processing
-Memory
-Self confidence
-Academic performance

Zones Of Regulation

Zones of Regulation® is a curriculum by Leah Kuypers, MA Ed., OTR/L, which encourages awareness of one’s arousal state and how to use sensory motor strategies to self regulate. These skills enhance the child’s ability to learn, interact socially, work, and play in varied environments.

The Alert Program

The Alert Program© (How Does Your Engine Run) by Mary Sue Williams, OTR/L, and Sherry Shellenberger, OTR/L, helps teach children how to change how alert they feel and teaches adults how to support learning, attending, and positive behaviors.

Social Thinking

Social Thinking® is a term coined by Michelle Garcia Winner, CCC-SLP, and represents a flexible systems-based teaching methodology consisting of curricula, vocabulary, teaching tools, and strategies for individuals aged preschool through adults. Learn more at www.socialthinking.com.

Handwriting Without Tears

Handwriting Without Tears© by Jan Olsen, OTR, is a multi-sensory handwriting curriculum. It’s designed for children of all ability levels to make handwriting a fun and successful endeavor while promoting the child’s self-confidence.

SOS Feeding Approach

SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Feeding Approach© for picky eaters and selective feeders developed by Kay A. Toomey, Ph.D., and Erin Ross, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a sensory based and oral developmental approach to assessing and addressing all the factors involved in feeding difficulties. Many of our therapists have received this training in addition to other feeding specific techniques.

Therapeutic Listening

Therapeutic Listening© by Sheila Frick, OTR/L, is usually structured as a home program using specialized headphones and modulated music on compact discs. Sound vibration stimulates the brain and utilizes the close connection between the ear and voice, language, and emotional and psychological development.

The Integrated Listening System

The Integrated Listening System (iLs)© developed by Randall Redfield and Kate O'Brien-Minson, is based on the idea that efficient brain function requires a properly integrated nervous system. The iLs program uses a customized combination of acoustically modified classical music combined with visual, vestibular, and motor exercises. These exercises work to activate the pathways used in the processing of sensory information by providing gentle and specific stimulation. iLs is predominantly used as a home program; however, we can provide the needed equipment and train parents to administer the program to their child in the clinic.

The Safe And Sound Protocol

The Safe & Sound ProtocolTM (SSP) developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, is part of the Integrated Listening System (iLs)© that is five day innovative intervention designed to improve an individual's social communication behaviors by reducing hearing sensitivities and improving the ability to process human speech. By calming the behavioral and physiological state, further therapy is enhanced or even accelerated. The SSP is ideal as an introductory therapy for those experiencing high levels of stress, especially related to trauma, autism and anxiety, as well as those with auditory sensitivites.
